Editor of "Auto Mail.Ru" passed a part of the press crew of the rally-RAID "silk road 2017" 5 days on the way from Moscow to Astana and shares his impressions
When the chief editor put me in the "silk way", I didn't know whether to laugh or to grieve. Many of my colleagues who have ever covered this event, later on repudiated by him as the devil from Holy water. On the "silk road 2017" we were invited to the company "Gazprom Neft", one of the official partners of the race, which was presented at rally-RAID new fuel "Diesel Opti" — for these purposes was selected tanker with 6000 liters of diesel, who accompanied our caravan to the Chinese border, and Jaguar Land Rover have shared two turbodiesel and two Discovery V Discovery Sport, which the journalists had to drive more than 9,600 km from Moscow to XI'an.
Participation in the "Silk road" — a very expensive event where only for accreditation will have to pay 3500 euros for 1 person, and we each car was traveling, three or four. For the money the race direction is taking the lead in organizing the camp along with food and Internet connection, medical assistance, issuing of road books, branded clothing, press guides and other documentation, as well as the results of the GPS-Tripy II connected to the power-supply system is something like electronic road book and a GPS beacon that monitors speeding. The press crews are divided into 2 types: the first with yellow stickers on the sides, moving on the public roads without the right to leave on the race stages. Second, with green stickers on the sides can go to "channel" the race an hour before start to pick the best observation point for the rally-RAID, but the car actually needs to match the Production category (T2). We have yellow stickers.
As in rally-raids I am a layman in matters of organization of each of our working day, I relied on colleagues and drivers-instructors accompanying each machine. Where you say, and to go. We got to SU in the Nizhny Novgorod region I don't remember, because after sleepless nights and "taxiing" I "passed out" instantly. The first thing that catches the eye is blocked in the area SU of the road. It is clear that the overlap for the sake of security, but it's happening ahead of time and the passage is blocked for a few hours. For the locals, of course, to see De Rooy or Peterhansel in his village — an event of a lifetime, but there is a lot of those who blocked the road breaks work and all the plans.
